Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian and Belarusian Vladimir Makei agreed, during a phone call today, to continue consultations to determine the fate of Iranian nationals stranded in the border area between Belarus and Lithuania.
Fars news agency reported that Abdullahian expressed, during the phone call, his concern about the conditions of Iranian nationals, after circulating worrying news in the cyberspace about the situation of these people, calling for maximum cooperation from Belarus, especially the border guards, to help them.
In turn, Macky briefed his Iranian counterpart on the measures taken by the Belarusian Foreign Ministry to identify and find these people, stressing Minsk's serious readiness to provide maximum assistance in this regard and to continue close contacts with the Iranian embassy.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh confirmed last Sunday that the Iranian embassy in Belarus sent a team to the border region with Lithuania to discuss the conditions of the stranded nationals in preparation for their return to the homeland, noting that the ministry is following with interest the issue of nationals in order to address their problems and return them to the country.
It is noteworthy that 13 Iranian nationals have been stuck in the border area for several days.
