Big day for the Rotary Club Schliersee: As part of its 35th anniversary celebration, he sealed a friendship contract with the Rotary Club Salo Desenzano on Lake Garda.
Schliersee
- The Rotarians from Lake Garda came to
Schliersee
with a delegation of almost 20 people.
A three-day program was waiting for them - from a gala evening with a contract signing in the Hasenöhrl Hof in Geitau to a hike on the Wendelstein, a visit to the Wasmeier Museum and the Slyrs distillery to the final white sausage breakfast.
It fills him with joy and pride to seal this partnership, emphasized Marco Pontoglio Bina, President of the Rotary Club Salo Desenzano, at the festive evening, "on such an important day for the Rotary Club Schliersee".
In October 1986 - that is 35 years ago - this was launched by the Rotary Club Tegernsee.
The first 20 members have now grown to 59 members.
The signing should take place in 2020
The friendship between the Schliersee and the Italians should officially begin in 2020.
But the corona pandemic thwarted the clubs.
Now the Schlierseer charter party turned out to be a worthy setting.
It is the second friendship contract for both clubs.
Schliersee has had a partnership with Massa Marittima in Tuscany since June 1991.
The Lake Garda Rotarians - founded in 1957 - have been allied with Saint-Germain-en-Laye near Paris since 1962.
The friendship with Schliersee is a special one, said Pontoglio Bina, and "destined to outlast us".
His colleague Karl Schwab from Schliersee agreed: “There is a formal contract on paper, but it is only of secondary importance,” he said.
"It now depends on what the members make of it."
Contact came about by chance
The partnership between the two clubs came about by chance.
During a joint excursion by the Waakirchner Alpine Club and mountain friends from the Waakirchner partner municipality Gargnano on Lake Garda, the then chairman of the Alpine Club Schwab met Susanne Toepler from Sauerlach on the side of the Italians.
Incidentally, she said that her Rotary club was looking for a club "south of Munich".
Schwab passed on the contact, and his two presidential predecessors, Armin Hilgarth and Linda Gebser, held initial discussions with their respective counterparts.
After two mutual visits, it quickly became clear that they would also like to officially enter into a partnership.
Schliersee Rotarians recently raised over 20,000 euros for flood victims
The two clubs now hope not only for friendly ties, but also for joint aid projects.
After all, the aim of Rotarians is to get involved socially.
In his brief review of 35 years, Schwab not only reminded the audience that around 1700 lectures were heard at the weekly meetings during this time.
He also made it clear that the members have since donated over half a million euros for social causes.
Most recently, the Schliersee Rotarians got involved with the flood victims in the country: within a few days, the club raised more than 20,000 euros.
