Shock: Is Lukacs on his way to becoming vegan? | Israel today

2021-10-26T07:25:32.558Z

Our rapper and restaurant critic came to the vegan diner "416" for an experience that, at least according to what he initially thought, would be delicate, but in practice was particularly turbulent and mostly made him ask himself quite a few questions

I have long been eager to review a vegan restaurant.

The contrast between the oversized meat lover that I, and the restaurant, which in my imagination at least, would be delicate and fragile - fascinated me.

Besides, I always like to discover new worlds, especially when they are a short distance from my home, with an adjacent parking lot and an elevator so that God forbid it is not packed while climbing two floors on foot.

We reached 416 (which prefers to be called "Four One Six") in the bustling heart of Tel Aviv, 16 Arbaa Street, hence the name.

A trendy and cool vegan restaurant, with fun music and an atmosphere of a warm but innovative bar.

I took with me Fluffy and Lolly, a couple of vegetarian and pregnant friends, and my good friend Erez who hardly came because the restaurant is vegan.

I heard a lot of good reviews about the place so I came with high expectations (unlike my dietitian who no longer expects anything from me) a light conversation with the lovely barmaid who took care of our special cocktails and come to the craft.

For the first time we took "Calamari" King of the Forest, Moroccan cigars, a plate of lava and Kyle the Emperor.

The calamari was a great experience, as a person who remembers the taste of calamari well but avoided it for more than a decade (for kosher reasons), I frantically enjoyed a bite of crispy vegan calamari with a texture that is exactly the same as the original but without any guilt (both religion and animals).

The Moroccan cigars were better than most of the cigars I ate, and came alongside three complementary and wonderful dips.

The lava plate was great, served with Bedouin pita and was soured just right.

Kale Emperor was the best Caesar salad I have ever eaten, a vegan version of the classic Caesar salad with identical and even tastier flavors from all the animal ingredients.

Fluffy was happy I was enjoying a vegan restaurant, Lolly was impressed with the lava and Erez said he was really glad he was coming.

And when no one has any complaints - you can continue with the mains: steak rocca, shawarma seitan and steak in a pan.

The Rocca steak was a salad of fennel, onions, seitan and potatoes and was great.

The seitan was very tasty, the potatoes were crispy and perfect and the salad disappeared faster than Jacko Eisenberg after a star was born.

The seitan shawarma was crazy, a completely spoiled tortilla with mushrooms, garlic, chili and seitan that is really remarkably reminiscent of shawarma, a combination that creates a bite that gives a fight without the few shawarmas I know.

The steak in the pan came with a stew of hot and delicious tomatoes, great vegetables and crispy potatoes, but what about the steak itself?

A great dish for a vegan who wants to remember the texture of a steak, although unlike other dishes this substitute does not compare to the original.

Lolly and Erez were drunk from the stunning cocktails served throughout the evening while Fluffy and I settled for non-alcoholic cocktails that were delicious and refreshing.

A fluent conversation about online fan culture, restaurant reviews and the questions I always ask (it turns out that Erez would go vegan for the rest of his life for four million shekels) and we continued with desserts: Thousand Horse and Brownie Sunday.

The Thousand Horse is a vegan and corrupt version of the Alphaphores dessert that comes with the Alphaphores cookie on the side.

The dessert was excellent, the coconut and milk jam flavors were great, and the alphaphores cookie on the side was one of the best I have eaten.

The brownie Sunday was perfect, a hot brownie that melts in your mouth alongside excellent ice cream that leaves a taste of more.

Fluffy asked me what I thought of the restaurant.

I told her it was amazing and that even though I had expectations, the experience surpassed all imagination and I did not think I could enjoy a vegan restaurant like that.

She kept asking if I see myself going vegan?

I replied that on the day it would be the standard of vegan food then maybe, but that for some time I have been incorporating vegan options because I genuinely love animals.

Satisfied with the answer, she asked Erez if he saw himself going vegan.

"No".

I laughed and she got mad.

Although the world is slowly changing and improving, there are things that do not change.

We said goodbye and I ran to get the bitch down quickly before rinsing the pee in the living room to join my to-do list for today.

I love my puppy on levels I can't describe.

To be honest, I love lots of animals and am sad about their suffering, but it's hard for me to make a big sacrifice myself and go vegan, does that make me hypocritical?

Maybe, but that's what I feel I can do right now.

But go you know, today I am the positive critic, maybe in a few years I will be the vegan positive critic, even so as a comedy rapper I specialize in small niches.

Until next time, I was Luke.
