Marktoberdorf / District - And now also paper!

Not enough with the fact that the prices for food, for energy and, most recently, the fees for garbage collection have risen rapidly and in some cases continue to rise, now citizens should also pay for the disposal of their paper waste in the blue bin.

As the company Hubert Schmid announced, from January a total of 27.85 euros per year will be due for each 240-liter ton, and 72.70 euros for the large 770-liter ton. After all, if you don't want to use the blue bin in the future, you don't have to. Waste paper can still be handed in free of charge at the municipal recycling centers.

The blue bin was initially introduced in the district town as well as in Buchloe and Füssen by the Marktoberdorf company Hubert Schmid in 2008. Later, the paper collection was extended to the entire district. Gladly accepted by many as a free service every four weeks, others complained that the free disposal of the paper deprived numerous associations in the district of an important source of income: They had regularly organized waste paper collections and, given the high prices at the time, the groupage was for good Money sold for the benefit of the club's treasury.

In order to take the wind out of the sails of the critics, the Schmid company agreed financial compensation with the clubs for the first five years if their collection volumes decreased.

For 2008 this was an impressive 95 euros per ton.

Almost 14 years later, the situation is different, according to the Schmid company. Compensation payments have long since ceased to exist, but for Schmid, “an increasing share of cardboard, especially due to online trading and changed reading behavior, leads to a significant deterioration in the quality of the paper and the resulting lower marketing revenues ”.

Abused as a waste bin

So it says in a letter from the company to the users, with which the introduction of the fees will be justified at the beginning of October.

The letter also gives a second reason that makes Schmid Managing Director Reinhard Mayer angry: The blue bin is apparently increasingly being misused as a waste bin.

Foils would be disposed of in it, cans and even household waste.

“You can't even imagine,” says Mayer, “what is in there.” The managing director attaches great importance to the vast majority of users who use the blue bin absolutely as intended.

Black and white sheep

Among other things, the sorting out of said "interfering solids" (Mayer) costs a lot of money, and from January onwards the white sheep have to pay for the black sheep.

The Hubert Schmid company has a little treat for everyone who makes quick decisions: if you continue to order the blue bin until the end of the month and have the fees debited, you will receive a credit of six euros (small bin) or 15 euros (large bin).
