The SPD politician Dennis Buchner is to become President of the Berlin House of Representatives.

The SPD parliamentary group unanimously nominated the 44-year-old for the post on Tuesday, a spokesman announced.

Should Buchner be elected at the constituent session of the House of Representatives on November 4th, which is very likely, he would succeed Ralf Wieland (SPD).

Berlin - He held the office of President of Parliament for two electoral terms from 2011 until now.

In the election to the House of Representatives on September 26, he did not run again.

The right to propose the post always rests with the strongest political group.

It is a good parliamentary custom that the candidate is then elected by a large majority in plenary.

Buchner wants to introduce himself to the other parliamentary groups by the next week's meeting.
