Saxony-Anhalt does not want to mess up after the corona pandemic, but instead wants to pound: Two billion euros are to be invested to strengthen the economy, society and state administration.

Where exactly is the money going?

Magdeburg - The black-red-yellow state government wants to resolve the supplementary budget for the current year in the cabinet on Tuesday.

The “Corona special fund” is also part of the package.

For 60 individual measures, 1.95 billion euros are to flow in the next few years in order to mitigate the consequences of the pandemic.

“It's about investing.

But with all measures we will check very carefully whether there is a corona reference, "says Finance Minister Michael Richter (CDU).

719 million euros alone are to be spent on digitization projects. The coalition wants to support the municipal gigabit expansion and equip the universities with new technology. There are also plans to acquire new media technology for online courses in schools and to finance digital devices for schoolchildren. According to information from Radio Brocken, EUR 313 million will be made available for digitization measures in the state administration. Among other things, this is intended to acquire mobile work technology and improve the IT infrastructure.

Around 256 million euros are to be used to stimulate the economy, tourism and society.

Among other things, an action program "Catching up after Corona for children and adolescents" is planned.

In addition, sports clubs are to be supported with grants and financial disadvantages caused by corona in local public transport are to be compensated.

The largest block of expenditure is earmarked for the healthcare system at 975 million euros.

The money is to be used to implement pandemic research projects and to purchase large equipment for hospitals.

According to Radio Brocken, 91.5 million euros should be set for the last point alone.

The government also wants to do something in the area of health management: Rooms in schools, universities, non-university institutions and public buildings are to be equipped with mobile or permanently installed air filter systems.

“We want to implement this within a short period of time, that is five to seven years,” says Richter.

From the eighth year onwards, repayments have to be made, “with 100 million euros per year.

As things stand today, that is a realistic scenario ”.

In this case, the repayment would take more than 20 years.

The CDU, SPD and FDP have anchored the Corona special fund in the coalition agreement.

Originally a volume of 1.5 billion euros was agreed, but the coalition had kept an increase open.

If there is "a higher need for expenses that are understandably due to the corona, we will increase this amount accordingly," says the coalition agreement.

After the decision by the cabinet, the state parliament is to deal with the supplementary budget in November.
