Washington-Sana

A study conducted by researchers at Northwestern University in the United States revealed a relationship between smells and the recovery of human memories of the ability of smells to reach memory areas in the brain.

The scientific journal (Progress in Theurology) quoted the scientists as saying that “a person picks up odors when the sense of smell plays its role, which begins with the association of molecules called odorous molecules with receptors designated for them in the nose, which in turn transmit information through sensory nerves to the so-called olfactory bulb at the base of the olfactory bulb. the brain to relay odor information to deeper areas of the brain.”

The scientists added that the olfactory system transmits odor information to areas of the brain located in the ventral system, which is associated with memory and emotions, so it is possible to distinguish odors with the memories associated with them at different stages of life.

In their study, the scientists showed a unique connection between the hippocampus, the seat of memory in the brain, and the olfactory regions of humans, noting that the sense of smell is the fastest in contact with the hippocampus than the rest of the senses, such as sight, hearing and touch.
