The government announced today (26th) that it will update the quarantine standards for patients diagnosed with new coronary pneumonia and tighten the discharge arrangements for confirmed cases. Starting tomorrow (27th), patients who are diagnosed must go to the North Lantau Hospital to be quarantined for 14 days after being discharged from the hospital. Temporary hospital, cannot go home directly.

The Food and Health Bureau stated that the policy is to cooperate with Hong Kong's active "clearing" epidemic prevention and control strategy, and to further minimize the risk of confirmed patients who may still carry the virus and spread in the community after early recovery.

The Food and Health Bureau announced on August 6 that the patient’s discharge schedule was updated. One of the conditions for the previous discharge was that the antibody test result was changed from negative to positive. In addition to the positive antibody test, at least one polymerase chain reaction test was required. A Ct value of 33 or above means that the amount of virus must drop to an extremely low level.

The tightening is again this time, and starting from tomorrow, the new standard no longer considers the Ct value.

Symptomatic patients must have their body temperature returned to normal for more than three days, and their respiratory symptoms have improved significantly. The samples were tested for nucleic acid at least 24 hours apart, and the results were negative, and it has been more than 10 days since the onset of illness.

As for patients with no symptoms, except that the samples were tested negative for nucleic acid at least 24 hours apart, they also need to be more than 10 days after the first positive test before they can be classified as recovered.

After being discharged from the hospital, accept "closed-loop management" to prevent viruses from entering the community

After discharge, patients who meet the discharge criteria will be arranged to go to the designated isolation location through "closed-loop management" and point-to-point methods for 14 days of isolation management and health monitoring to ensure that discharged patients do not enter the community with the virus.

At this stage, the government will use the Hong Kong Infection Control Center of North Lantau Hospital as the isolation site.

The Department of Health will extend the quarantine order to patients who meet the discharge conditions in accordance with the powers granted by Article 23 of the Prevention and Control of Disease Regulations (Cap. 599A) until 14 days after discharge.
