Landsberg - The Schwaighofsiedlung has often been the subject of heated debates in the building committee - always when modern building projects that were perceived as too large threatened to change the character of the area.

Landsberger Mitte has now started a push to preserve the uniqueness of the Schwaighofsiedlung in the long term.

Most recently, an application to build a new apartment building with eleven residential units and an underground car park in Altöttinger Strasse caused a stir.

Residents collected signatures against the building, which was perceived as oversized.

Before the building committee and the design advisory board were able to get an idea of the situation at an on-site meeting, the building applicant withdrew his application.

inventory

The issue of urban development in the Schwaighofsiedlung is not off the table, especially since two such controversial apartment buildings already exist there.

Landsberger Mitte has now applied for an urban planning inventory for the area, "taking into account the preservation of the character of the settlement as well as acceptable redensification".

The area - bounded by the Lech, Augsburger Straße, the railway line and the A96 - is characterized by residential, single-family and row houses as well as streets with old trees.

"In Landsberg am Lech, this urban structure stands unmistakably for the Schwaighofsiedlung", wrote the Landsberger Mitte in its application.

The building law in the area is not uniformly regulated.

A large number of development plans apply, the areas of application of which partly overlap.

In some places, only the - quite subjective - requirement to insert applies, which has repeatedly led to undesirable urban development effects in the past.

The result is a development that exceeds the level of acceptable redensification.

The political goal is exactly the opposite - the preservation of the character of the settlement and only a tolerable redensification.

This goal should now be put on legally secure feet, demands the Landsberger Mitte.

This would also meet the wishes of a large part of the local residents.

In the medium term, the existing development plans should be adapted as far as possible.

As a first step, an urban planning inventory is now being drawn up for the area.

The building committee agreed on this unanimously.

Landsberger Mitte demands that changed or new areas of application for future development plans be defined on the basis of this inventory.
