A monitoring point in the tunnel between Kowloon Station and the Olympic Station on the Tung Chung Line of the MTR has recorded subsidence on the 7th of last month. The foundation works of the Fire Services Department Building on To Wah Road must be suspended.

A government spokesperson announced today (26th) that work is now scheduled to resume. The contractor will add an underground grouting curtain and pre-grouting around the piles before continuing the remaining foundation works.

The government quoted the engineering analysis submitted by the contractor and estimated that the settlement of the railway tunnel concerned was within 28 mm, which would not affect the structural safety of the railway tunnel. The Architectural Services Department and the MTR Corporation accepted and adjusted the monitoring index to 28 mm.

According to the information, the original stoppage target was 20 millimeters before the incident.

Estimated settlement range within 28 mm

In the tunnel between Kowloon Station and Olympic Station on the Tung Chung Line of the MTR, the settlement record of one of the monitoring points recorded a slight excess of 20.27 mm on September 7 this year. The default stoppage index is 20 mm. It is located on To Wah Road. The project to relocate fire station facilities was immediately suspended.

A government spokesman announced today that the relevant project has been approved to resume work. The contractor will continue the remaining foundation works after completing the recommended mitigation measures, including the installation of underground grouting curtains and underground pre-grouting around the piles.

The government quoted the engineering analysis submitted by the contractor, and based on the actual site environment and related data, estimated that the settlement of the railway tunnel was within 28 mm, which would not affect the structural safety of the railway tunnel.

The Architectural Services Department and the MTR Corporation then accepted the adjustment of the monitoring settlement stoppage indicator to 28 mm.

The Government stated that the Architectural Services Department, the Buildings Department and the MTR Corporation have re-inspected and confirmed the structural safety of the relevant railway facilities.

The MTR Corporation has also been consulted and confirmed that the resumption of work will not adversely affect the structure and operational safety of the relevant facilities.

The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department and the MTR Corporation have also inspected and confirmed that the railway condition meets the requirements for safe operation.

The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department confirmed that the MTR Corporation has stringent monitoring measures to continue to ensure the safety of railway operations.
