The Biden administration has in recent days sent a sharp protest to the Prime Minister's Office over the decision to promote the planning and construction of about 3,000 new housing units in settlements in the West Bank - Walla was told!
Factors involved.
This is the first time that Israel has promoted settlement construction since US President Joe Biden took office.
The US administration has tried to pressure Israel not to make the move or at least reduce the number of housing units that will be approved.
In the end, the number of housing units approved was larger than the original plan.

Sources noted that last week, following the announcement of the intention to approve construction in the settlements, US Ambassador to Jerusalem Michael Ratani called Prime Minister Naftali Bennett's political adviser, Shimrit Meir, and clarified that the United States considers planning and construction to be serious.
Rathani noted that the United States is particularly concerned about the fact that about two-thirds of all housing units brought in for approval are located in isolated settlements deep in the West Bank and outside the large settlement blocs.
"It was a difficult conversation," said a source close to the conversation.

Concurrent with the conversation between the senior US diplomat and the prime minister's adviser, US State Department spokesman Ned Price said publicly on Friday that the United States was concerned about the intention to approve settlement construction, and called on Israel and the Palestinians to avoid unilateral measures that exacerbate tensions and undermine the two-state solution.
Jerusalem and Washington declined to comment but did not deny the details.
The Prime Minister's Office said in response: "We are not addressing an internal dialogue with the US administration."
A State Department spokesman said in a statement: "We are not commenting on private diplomatic talks."
