2021-10-26T10:20:04.079Z

French people over 12 years old must present a health certificate. For islands, different rules may apply.

Greece has been one, if not THE favorite destination for the French this summer.

This fall, Greece remains easily accessible for European tourists, and intends to continue to attract travelers from France.

Arrival in Greece: what are the necessary documents for the French?

All travelers, regardless of their origin and means of transport, must complete an online PLF (or Passenger Locator Form) form no later than the day before their arrival in the country.

This form, available in French, can be stored on the VisitGreece application (available on Google Play and the App Store).

A single form can be completed for the family.

By plane

Tourists over the age of 12 must then present one of the following documents when boarding or at the airport of arrival:

  • a complete vaccination certificate, knowing that Greece considers as vaccinated those who received their second dose more than fourteen days before their date of arrival on the territory

  • a negative PCR test less than 72 hours or an antigen test less than 48 hours before boarding

  • proof of recovery from Covid by presenting a certificate of infection, established following a positive test dating more than a month after infection and less than 6 months.

Greece recognizes the European health pass and accepts documents written in French.

On arrival, do not be surprised if you are ordered to carry out a PCR or antigen test: the authorities carry out random screening.

The checked travelers wait on the spot for the result.

If the test is positive, then a 10-day quarantine must be observed, reduced to 7 days for vaccinated travelers, in a hotel designated and paid by the authorities, who will not cover the costs of canceling your stay.

By boat

The arrival of travelers by commercial sea is authorized - except from Turkey - under the same conditions as by plane.

The maritime borders between Italy and Greece are open.

Travelers can take ferries to and from the ports of Patras and Igoumenitsa.

Pleasure boating for individuals or for commercial purposes is authorized regardless of the flag, from countries which are members of the Schengen area.

In all cases, travelers are required to inform the port authorities of their arrival at least 6 hours before entering the port (name of the boat, flag, list of people on board and health conditions, etc.).

We will have to wait for the agreement of the authorities to dock.

What formalities to reach the Greek islands from the mainland?

To go to the Cyclades or the Ionian Islands from the mainland, or from another island, the same documents as for entering the country will be required.

For unvaccinated people who would leave for the islands after a first part of their stay in mainland Greece, the test carried out in France must always be valid at the time of boarding by plane or boat, that is to say less than 72 hours. before boarding for the PCR test and less than 48 hours for the antigen test.

If it is no longer valid, which can happen if you stay in Athens for a few days, for example, you will have to carry out a new test on site.

Ditto if you move from island to island.

For the vaccinated, that does not change anything, it is enough to present the certificate of vaccination.

Before taking the boat, you must also complete an online contact form (in English).

Adolescents from 12 to 17 years old must fulfill the same conditions as adults but have an additional possibility: they may present a negative result of a self-test less than 24 hours before departure.

The result must be entered by downloading the pdf document.

Minors under 12 are exempt from these measures.

When returning from the islands, to go to the mainland, it is recommended for all travelers from 12 years old to perform a screening self-test.

Restaurants, museums ... What are the measures in force in Greece?

There is no longer a curfew in Greece, where the wearing of a mask is compulsory in indoor public places, transport and all places where the distance cannot be respected. Museums, cinemas, performance halls welcome the public on presentation of the health pass. The terraces of restaurants, bars and cafes are open and accessible to all. The interior, on the other hand, is "Covid-free", that is to say reserved for vaccinated, immunized or tested. Live music is not permitted in these establishments. Customers waiting for a table must keep their mask, specifies the French consulate in Athens. The beaches are open.

All businesses are normally open as are casinos, sports halls, amusement parks, outdoor theme parks, and spas.

Clubs are only allowed outside and subject to entry conditions, to do directly with these establishments.
