Unknown perpetrators tried early Tuesday morning on the market square in Butzbach (Wetteraukreis) to blow up an ATM in a business and residential building.
When this failed, they sped off in a car, the police said.
Butzbach - Shortly after 4:00 a.m., residents were roused from their sleep by a loud bang and were made aware of the perpetrators' activities.
According to police, witnesses reported that two people with headlamps hurried out of the building and joined another person in a dark car parked in front of the door.
An Offenbach license plate was affixed to the car.
The trio drove away at high speed.
