INFOGRAPHIC - In 2020, if young European adults have slightly delayed their departure from the family cocoon, the covid crisis obliges. It is good, in a context of economic crisis, access to employment which mainly conditions the departure from the parental home.


Young Europeans left their parental home at the age of 26 on average in 2020, according to the latest Eurostat data.

The differences are very marked within the European Union.

Beyond cultural mores, access to employment remains one of the main factors to explain these differences.

On average, the retirement age increased last year and for the first time since 2005. Unsurprisingly, in times of crisis, there is a strong tendency among young people to stay with their families.
