The United States believes Iran is responsible for the drone strike on its forces in Syria last week, US officials said, speaking anonymously to the Associated Press. The al-Tanf outpost, which may herald a new front between the old enemies, has been announced by the

United States.

They hit the American part of the outpost and the part where the Syrian opposition forces are staying.

No casualties were reported in the attack, but photos posted on social media showed significant damage to the base.

It was also the largest and most sophisticated offensive against the small American force sent to Syria in 2015 to support Kurdish forces against ISIS. The Ba-Tanf outpost is located on a road that serves as an essential route for the forces supported by Iran, from Tehran to southern Lebanon.

Pentagon spokesman John Kirby declined to give details when asked about the report during a news conference Monday. He called it a "complex, coordinated and deliberate attack" and said the United States had been similarly attacked in the past by Iranian-backed Shiite militias. However, he did not elaborate and said he had no update on the weapons in which the base was attacked.

Kirby also declined to say whether the forces had been alerted or whether the U.S. intended to respond militarily. That's right, and we certainly don't anticipate such decisions. "

Pro-Iranian media said the attack on al-Tanaf was carried out by "Syrian allies" - a name implied by Iranian militias - in retaliation for an attack days earlier in the Tadmor area attributed to Israel, but US officials said the United States was not involved.

An official on the opposition axis said that "the attack on a-Tanaf can be seen as a realization" of the promises to respond to the attack in the Tadmor area.

The offensive against American forces came at a time of growing tension with Iran.

The Biden administration said this week that diplomatic efforts to return Iran to talks on a return to the nuclear deal had reached a "critical stage" and that its patience was running out.

The last major Iranian attack on U.S. forces was in January 2020, when Tehran launched a barrage of ballistic missiles on an air base in Iraq in response to the assassination of Quds Force commander Qassem Suleimani a few days earlier in Baghdad.

Soldiers of the United States Army and the International Coalition were warned of the missiles and managed to take cover, but more than a hundred American soldiers suffered brain damage due to the explosions.
