Washington, SANA- Heavy rains inundated the northeastern regions of the United States, flooding roads and causing accidents.

Heavy rains inundated areas of the northeastern United States, where roads were inundated with water and caused traffic accidents in the first phase of expected weather disturbances in the region, accompanied by strong winds and high waves.

And US media quoted weather monitors as saying that the heavy rains that began last night and included the area from Washington to New York continued until this morning, while road accidents occurred in New Jersey, as the roads turned into rivers.

The storm is heading toward Massachusetts and is expected to reach coastal New England at night with winds of up to 95 kilometers per hour, which could cause water levels to rise one meter above sea level.

In turn, the US National Weather Service said that the storm was caused by an air depression with rotating winds that hit the coastal region.

Bob Oravak of the National Meteorological Service explained that today's rainy and stormy weather represents the first stage of a two-stage storm targeting the Northeast of America, and the first is expected to continue until Thursday, and the second will begin on Friday and continue until next Sunday.
