Ronald Koeman, Barcelona coach and star of the team in the 1990s, was fired tonight (light for Thursday) from the coaching job he held for 14 months, due to a series of losses, and the team's position in the Spanish league table.
A statement issued by the team stated that Koeman was fired, and he will be given the opportunity to part ways with the team players.
As you may recall, Barcelona lost 1-0 yesterday to the tiny Rayo Vallecano team from Madrid, and have lost three of their last four games.
Following the series of losses, Barcelona is ranked only ninth in the Spanish league table.
After the loss to Rayo Vallecano, Koeman said: "The team has lost balance in its lineup, lost a few stars, and in recent years many teams have been strengthened - while we are not."
At this point the main candidate to replace Koeman is team star Chavez Hernandez, known as Xavi.
