Landsberg - Which shops make sense in the city center?
Which ranges attract people to the city?
What development potential does Landsberg offer for an attractive, competitive retail landscape?
A retail development plan that will be drawn up in the coming months should answer all of these questions.
"The retail development concept is an informal planning instrument used by the administration that is incorporated into development plans," explains André Köhn, who is responsible for economic development in the town hall.
"It should enable comprehensible control instead of gut decisions." Cima Beratung und Management GmbH will create the concept on behalf of the city.
The retail investigation will soon begin with the analysis phase, with which the experts get an overview of the existing structures.
The size and type of business are recorded - not just in retail, but in the service and catering sectors.
It also investigates how large the catchment area of the shops is and how much purchasing power is migrating to online trading.
Wishes and problems
According to Köhn, a retail survey will follow in the city center in February.
The business owners can express their satisfaction with the location and bring problems and wishes to the table.
Aspects such as succession planning and options for the city to provide support are also asked.
The concept should be ready by April.
At the end there is an assortment list which the city can use as a basis for development plans and with which it can control the business structure in the city center.
The last list of this type was drawn up in 2011.
“You need a good mix of assortments in the city center,” explains Köhn.
A basic structure for this mixture is given by the state development program Bavaria.
It defines, among other things, pharmaceuticals and medical products, baby and children's items, clothing and glasses, books, newspapers and magazines, leather and household goods, gift items and much more as assortments for inner-city needs.
No changes
Until the new product range list for Landsberg is ready, no precedents should be set.
A few weeks ago, one of these was up for debate in the building committee: The CSU had applied for a flower shop to be allowed in the “Forum” on Münchener Strasse, or at least to check its location.
After a brief discussion, the group withdrew the motion.
"We don't want to change anything in the existing building at the moment," says Mayor Doris Baumgartl (UBV).
No further forms of settlement are to be permitted until the retail trade report is available in around six months.
