A children's book is dedicated to the history of Geretsried.

The Urzeln of the Transylvanian Saxons play a decisive role in this.

Now there is a new and expanded edition.

Geretsried - Where is the Urzel?

And is there a donut too?

When primary school students pay a visit to the Geretsried city museum, they already know exactly which department they want to go to.

Namely in that of the Transylvanian Saxons.

There you will find the unmistakable Urzeln with their black shaggy costume and long braid.

Many girls and boys know Urzel from class.

Because the city published a children's book on the history of the municipality in 2018, in which there is a small edition of the big shag with a cowbell and whip.

It is distributed free of charge to the third and fourth grades at the start of the school year.

Brochure revised and expanded

The revised and expanded edition has now been presented. "The brochure is designed to be exciting and appealing thanks to the many playful elements, illustrations and information about the Isar and its floodplains," said Mayor Michael Müller at the presentation in the city museum. He expressly thanked everyone involved, above all the publisher Petra Breuer, co-author Dr. Kaija Voss, museum specialist Anita Zwicknagl and the city marketing and business development team. The latter had made a budget of 8,000 euros available for the project, and it was printed in Geretsried.

The expanded book has 56 pages and an edition of 1000 copies.

New additions are, for example, a child-friendly map of the district and a compass rose to take up the topic of orientation, which is in the curriculum.

One page is also dedicated to the Geltinger village shop.

According to the museum specialist Zwicknagl, there is also more information on the area of flight and displacement.

"And it explains what a country team is."

"You can tell there is a lot going on here"

Some revisions were simply necessary, added co-author Voss.

The city has changed rapidly since it was first published.

"At that time, the Karl-Lederer-Platz was completely torn up," said the Geretsriederin.

The pictures of the ice rink and swimming pool were also exchanged.

“You can tell there's a lot going on here,” says the architectural historian.

However, Zwicknagl said that the donuts that the children wanted will not be served when they visit the museum.

The boys and girls have to come to Karl-Lederer-Platz for the hustle and bustle on Shrove Tuesday.

Traditionally, the Urzeln distribute the lard pastries there with their wooden tongs.
