Autumn is the main collection time, announced the State Forestry Agency on Wednesday in Erfurt.
Experts assumed a good mushroom season given the rainy summer and an early start.
It ends with the first frosts on the ground.
Erfurt / Oberhof - According to the Mycology Working Group, there are more than 4000 types of fungi in Thuringia, many of them very small.
Around 190 species of the so-called large mushrooms are edible.
The most popular edible mushrooms are porcini mushrooms and chestnuts.
"Everyone is allowed to collect small quantities of mushrooms in the forest and for their own consumption," explained the board member of the State Forestry Agency, Volker Gebhardt.
However, collecting is prohibited in nature reserves or fenced forest cultures.
This also applies to closed forest areas where wood is harvested or hunted.
Many forest mushrooms are under protection and are not allowed to be collected.
For the popular, but protected porcini mushrooms, an exemption applies.
In addition, mushrooms should not be torn out, but cut off at ground level with a sharp knife.
This protects the mushroom mycelium in the soil.
