Investigators will present their first findings on Wednesday about the fatal shooting on the set of the film
Rust
in New Mexico in which Alec Baldwin fired a prop gun, killing the cinematographer and wounding the director.
The press conference of the Santa Fe County Sheriff, Adán Mendoza, and the District Attorney, Mary Carmack-Altwies, will detail their findings on the death of Halyana Hutchins, 42, on October 21 in the filming of this western in which Baldwin not only works as an actor but also as a producer.

According to court records, Assistant Director Dave Halls grabbed the gun from a car, handed it to Baldwin, and told him it was safe, calling it a "cold gun."

However, it
was loaded with live bullets
, according to an affidavit written by a detective.
The actor was practicing how to draw it when he shot himself, hitting Hutchins in the chest and the director, Joel Souza, in the shoulder.
Baldwin, 63, known for his roles in
30 Rock
and The
Departed,
has described the murder as a
"tragic accident."
The prosecutor told The Associated Press news agency before the press conference that
the investigation is still in its early stages,
and that she is far from any decision on whether or not to file criminal charges.
He added that those involved are cooperating with authorities and that prosecutors will not fully review the evidence until the initial investigation by the sheriff's office is complete.

The pistol Baldwin used was one of three that a firearms specialist had placed in a vehicle outside the building where a scene was being rehearsed, according to court records.

Joel Souza told investigators that there should never be actual cartridges near the scene.
Authorities have seized
three black revolvers, holstered gun belts,
boxes of ammunition, a fanny pack with ammunition, several worn cartridges, and clothing and swabs containing what is believed to be blood.
Rust's
production
has been plagued by labor disputes since its inception in early October.
Hours before filming, several members of the camera crew left the set amid disagreements over working conditions, including safety procedures.

The assistant director had been fired from a movie in 2019 after a gun went off unexpectedly on set, injuring a crew member, a producer of that movie testified Monday.
[Actor Alec Baldwin's accident is "extremely rare" but it is not the only tragic death in a movie shoot]
It is unlikely that Baldwin, as an actor, will have to answer criminally or civilly
for the tragedy.
However, as a
producer, he
is part of a long list of collaborators on the film who may have some kind of responsibility.
Rust Movie Productions, the production company, says it is cooperating with Santa Fe authorities in their investigation and conducting its own internal review of procedures with the production closed.
