LE FIGARO.
- What is the ambition of this exhibition?
Jean-Marc CHATELAIN.

We present a set of pieces that allow us to penetrate to the heart of Baudelaire's creative work. This is why the exhibition is meant to be literary, and in that it differs from previous exhibitions which followed a chronological and biographical unfolding or else focused on a particular aspect of the work. Here we wish to embrace the whole of it, without separating the aesthetic criticism from the poetic work, which are two sides of the same creative activity. The guiding thread that allows us to do this is that of melancholy, whose forms and expressions are examined in three successive parts, framed by a prologue and an epilogue which echo each other. Through this highly structured route,we therefore wish to invite a reading of Baudelaire's work which is aimed at those who are already familiar with it and will find pleasure in browsing it.
