Jorge Soler knows how to make an impact from the beginning.

In his Major League Baseball (MLB) debut in 2014, he homered in his first at-bat.

And on Tuesday, Soler broke the third pitch of the 2021 World Series past the left-field wall, becoming the first player to hit a home run in the first plate appearance of the season finale.

Previously, four players had hit home runs in their team's first appearances at the plate in the World Series, most recently Chris Taylor for the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2017, but all reached the end of the first inning.

The achievement made the Cuban - who was making his first appearance after returning from the list of those affected by covid-19 - and his family very happy, he said at a press conference at the end.

"To be honest, I didn't know that was something until they told me a little bit later in the game," Soler said.

"I wasn't thinking about any of that."

The historic moment came with the Braves' 6-2 victory over the Houston Astros in Game 1 of the Fall Classic.

Soler's opening home run was followed shortly after by another from the 29-year-old before Adam Duvall's two-run homer in the third inning gave them a 5-0 lead at Houston's Minute Maid Park.

It took until the fourth inning for the locals to get on the board, with Chas McCormick as the man who broke the Astros' duck.

In the eighth inning, a triple by Yordan Álvarez boosted Carlos Correa's career and the scoreboard went 6-2, however, the Astros could not come back.

Braves manager Brian Snitker was making his first World Series appearance on Tuesday, and it couldn't have been a better debut.

"I was wondering before I got here how I would feel," he told a post-match press conference.

"When the game started, I felt like it was a baseball game, and you get so immersed in what you're doing that you forget where you are. It's just another baseball game, a very loud baseball game."

"Then so many things happened very quickly that I didn't get a chance to do anything more than that. But it was nice. I'm glad, obviously, that I won the game."

However, despite the convincing victory, Braves pitcher Charlie Morton broke a bone in his leg, causing him to miss the remainder of the World Series.
