New corona rapid tests led to a large number of false positive results at Hamburg's schools after the autumn break.
Of around 200,000 tests carried out on the first day of school, the results of 287 students and seven school employees were positive, said the spokesman for the school authority, Peter Albrecht, on Wednesday of the German press agency.
Hamburg - Less than a third of these results were later confirmed by a PCR test, but two thirds were not.
"It can be assumed that, among other things, there were many problems with the professional implementation."
In contrast to the previously used tests, with the new test kit the sample tube must be shaken well after the smear.
The schools were therefore asked in advance to refresh the test routines after the autumn break.
To support them, separate instructions for carrying out the test had been made available to them.
