The Russian Foreign Ministry reiterated that the policy of unilateral coercive measures followed by the United States is unacceptable and illegal, condemning the "clumsy" American attempts to infringe on the rights and freedoms of Russian citizens.
"We express our deep concern about the sanctions imposed by Washington since 2016 on the Russian company Sofracht over supplies of jet fuel to Syria," Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said in a statement posted on the ministry's website today, noting that the US authorities have "frozen since 2018 transfers Millions of dollars in banking for this company, and the US District Attorney’s Office announced the legal prosecution of five of its employees.”
“It has been repeatedly emphasized that the activities of the Sofracht company are carried out on the basis of officially concluded contracts and in strict accordance with Russian legislation, and that the aviation fuel transported by the company was not re-exported, resold or transferred to a third party and was used in the fight against terrorist groups, as well as in the removal of Consequences of regional emergencies.
Zakharova indicated that such actions from the US side "are nothing but a clumsy attempt to pressure Russia, which is inconsistent with the rules of international law, as well as a flagrant violation of the rights and freedoms of Russian citizens."
“The practice of unilateral coercive measures and the pursuit of our citizens actively used by Washington is unacceptable and intrinsically illegal,” Zakharova said, adding: “We reject any plans of the United States to seek to extradite our citizens by extraterritorial application of the rules of its domestic legislation.. This is our position. which is unshakable and we will defend it vigorously.”
Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry described the sanctions imposed by the United States on the Russian shipping company Suffracht as "meaningful assistance" to terrorists.
