There is finally a decision: If the pandemic allows it, the Starnberg Ice Magic will take place again on the church square from January 14 to February 6, 2022 after a year of Corona break. The city council decided on Monday evening with 21:10 votes.

There is finally a decision: If the pandemic allows it, the Starnberg Ice Magic will take place again on the church square from January 14 to February 6, 2022 after a year of Corona break.

The city council decided on Monday evening with 21:10 votes.

Starnberg - headwind against the ice magic came mainly from the Greens and the SPD - for financial considerations and for climate protection reasons. The discussion was similar to that in the Main and Finance Committee a week earlier. At that time, however, two votes ended in a 6-6 stalemate, which is why the city council now had to decide.

Friedrich Federsel (Greens) described the ice rink on the church square as “out of date”. For 60,000 euros - that's how high the city's need for subsidies is - "significantly better events that are climate-friendly and are just as fun," he said. "If we take climate protection really seriously, we should stop such entertainment events," emphasized the Greens parliamentary group leader Dr. Frang Sengl. Christiane Falk (SPD) made a similar statement and asked: “What do we teach the children? Climate change is ensuring that the Maisinger See no longer freezes over, but we are bringing an ice rink into the city. "

The responsible office manager Sarah Buckel stated the cost of just the electricity required for the ice magic at around 10,000 euros, depending on the outside temperature. That corresponds to a good 30,000 kilowatt hours. And that's about as much as six families of four consume a year.

The proponents did not want to accept the criticism - neither in terms of the deficit nor in terms of climate protection. “It's the only event we have for children,” said Marc Fiedler (FDP) for approval. In addition, they bring life to the city center. The “long-term goal” must be to make the ice magic climate-neutral. Sports advisor Winfried Wobbe (UWG) raved about the “exercise offer for children and young people”. Katja Fohrmann (CSU) spoke of a "highlight" and Josef Pfister (BMS) of a "huge event". He also pointed out that from a climate point of view, the indoor swimming pool would also have to be closed.

For the city administration, the city council's vote now means that planning must be taken up at full steam.

Since there is an entrance area and cash registers, compliance with the 3G rule and recording of contact data can be implemented, office manager Sarah Buckel had already said in the committee.

The workload due to the pandemic is higher than in previous years, but implementation is not impossible.

Eismeister is likely to return to Starnberg's “Mr.

Ice hockey “become Markus Nirschl.
