Friedrich Federsel (Greens) described the ice rink on the church square as “out of date”. For 60,000 euros - that's how high the city's need for subsidies is - "significantly better events that are climate-friendly and are just as fun," he said. "If we take climate protection really seriously, we should stop such entertainment events," emphasized the Greens parliamentary group leader Dr. Frang Sengl. Christiane Falk (SPD) made a similar statement and asked: “What do we teach the children? The responsible office manager Sarah Buckel stated the cost of just the electricity required for the ice magic at around 10,000 euros, depending on the outside temperature. That corresponds to a good 30,000 kilowatt hours. And that's about as much as six families of four consume a year.
The proponents did not want to accept the criticism - neither in terms of the deficit nor in terms of climate protection. “It's the only event we have for children,” said Marc Fiedler (FDP) for approval. In addition, they bring life to the city center. The “long-term goal” must be to make the ice magic climate-neutral. For the city administration, the city council's vote now means that planning must be taken up at full steam.
