The subcommittee of the Judicial Appointments Committee today (Wednesday) conducted interviews with 12 of the 24 candidates for the Supreme Court, with each candidate being given 20 minutes to flatten his case and his legal vision.
The other 12 candidates will be interviewed in the coming days.
The Judicial Appointments Committee consists of Justice Minister Gideon Saar (New Hope), Interior Minister Ayelet Shaked (right), MK Efrat Reitan (Labor), MK Simcha Rotman (Religious Zionism), Supreme Court President Esther Hayut, Supreme Court Justice Uzi Vogelman, Chief Justice Yitzhak Amit, and representatives of the Bar Association Ilana Sker and Muhammad Na'amana.
After the nomination of most of the candidates, those who remain will go up to the Judicial Selection Committee and there a final decision will be made on the next four appointments.
By June 2023, four judges will be appointed to replace Hanan Meltzer, Neil Handel, Menachem Mazuz and George Kara.
In the second half of the government's term, four more will be appointed - with the retirement of President Esther Hayut, and Justices Anat Baron, Uzi Vogelman and Yosef Elron.
The 12 candidates interviewed today: Judge Michal Agmon-Gonen, Maj. Hacohen, Justice Ram Winograd, Dr. Hagai Dov Vinitzky, Justice Zvi Weizmann and Adv. Il Yinon.
