The US authorities announced the revocation of the license granted to the branch of the Chinese telecommunications company, China Telecom, on its soil, claiming that it “poses significant risks to the national security of the United States.”
Washington is seeking to subjugate China and prevent it from competing to lead the global economy through pressure and sanctions on Chinese companies, as relations between the two countries witnessed severe tensions after former US President Donald Trump triggered a trade war and imposed tariffs on Chinese imports and goods, while the administration of current President Joe Biden continues the policies provocation against Beijing.
"The Chinese government's ownership and control of China Telecom poses a significant risk to national security and law enforcement in the United States," the US Federal Communications Commission said in a statement to AFP.
The committee gave China Telecom 60 days to stop its services in the United States.
China Telecom is the main fixed-line operator in China and has been operating in the United States for twenty years.
