Storm causes severe damage at Oklahoma airport 0:45
(CNN) -
The Storm Prediction Center reported that a tornado watch was issued Wednesday for parts of southeastern Texas, including Houston and southern and central Louisiana, including Lake Charles.
The alert will be in effect until 4pm CDT this afternoon and covers nearly 9 million people.
A line of strong storms is moving through East Texas this Wednesday morning, with new storms expected to form in advance of that line.
As a storm drenches the east coast of the United States, thousands of people have lost power and strong winds threaten more blackouts.
Damaging winds will be the main threat for the next several hours, but the potential for tornadoes is expected to increase in the late morning and late afternoon this Wednesday, according to the SPC.
Widespread damaging wind gusts of 70 mph are likely with some of the storms, along with the threat of a pair of "strong tornadoes," SPC added.
