The driver of a semitrailer truck crashed into the central barrier on the A81 near Horb (Freudenstadt district) and was trapped in his cabin and seriously injured.
As the police announced on Wednesday, the 25-year-old was rescued from the wreck by the fire department.
He was seriously injured and taken to a clinic by helicopter.
Horb am Neckar - Previously, a 57-year-old driver had steered his defective 12-ton truck onto the hard shoulder at Horb and drove on there at a low speed.
The driver of the articulated lorry brushed against the breakdown truck and then hit the central crash barrier.
"He broke through this and then came to a standstill," said the police.
The motorway in the direction of Singen was completely closed for several hours.
As a result, there were traffic jams for miles at Horb am Neckar.
The police put the accident damage at 150,000 euros.
