The Ministry of Water Resources has installed two water pumping engines into service, one main and another auxiliary, at the joint water pumping station in the Maskana area in the eastern countryside of Aleppo, after completing their rehabilitation with a pumping capacity of 9 cubic meters per second.
This measure comes in preparation for irrigating an area of 11,000 hectares of winter crops for the next season in the Al-Assad facility project, which has a total area of 17,000 hectares.
Dr. Tammam Raad, Minister of Water Resources, told SANA reporter that the percentage of completion in the projects of rehabilitating the main and sub-channels in the plains of the eastern countryside of Aleppo, which have been affected by terrorism during the past years, has reached 50 percent, noting the efforts made to rehabilitate the joint water pumping station, which was carried out with national expertise.
The Director General of the General Establishment for Land Reclamation, Eng. Rabie Al-Ali, indicated that the joint pumping station consists of 6 main pumping groups and 3 auxiliary groups. The capacity of one main pumping group is 7.5 megawatts, with a flow of 7.5 cubic meters per second, while the capacity of the auxiliary pumping group is 1.5 megawatts and a flow of 1.5 cubic meters per second, pointing out that the station's maximum flow is about 36 cubic meters per second, and the maximum static pumping height is 85 meters.
The Minister of Water Resources was also briefed on the Jeb Ghabsha-Sin irrigation project in the eastern countryside of Aleppo, which aims to irrigate 50 villages, including 30 villages in the first phase and 20 villages in the second phase, and preparations are underway to irrigate 4 villages before the end of this year.
The Director General of the Water Company in Aleppo, Engineer Anas Abu Dan, explained that the project includes the construction of a pumping center and linking it with an outlet from the second traction channel, the construction of a 600-cubic-meter high reservoir, the implementation of liquefaction and payment lines, and main and subsidiary networks for the targeted villages, indicating that the completion rate amounted to 30 percent during the project implementation period. It lasts 365 days, and the project sponsor is the General Company for Water Projects.
