Two out of five French people, among the regulars of cultural places, have given up their outings this summer

According to a study carried out in early September, the return of the public to cinemas, theaters and museums was slower than expected during the holidays.


Nearly 40% of French people have not returned to a cultural place this summer, according to a survey commissioned by the Ministry of Culture to assess the impact of the health crisis on outings.

The results of the report, carried out by the Harris Interactive institute and published on Wednesday, remain indicative, the survey having been conducted between August 31 and September 3, 2021, that is to say even before the cultural re-entry.

An attendance that does not return to normal

Among the 88% of French people who went to a cultural place in a normal year, 61% said they had returned there at least once since the introduction of the health pass on July 21 and 39% were not there. at all returned.

In detail, only 25% of French people attended a live performance (concert, theater, dance or circus), 31% visited an exhibition or a museum and 41% went to the cinema.

In the coming months, 30% of people questioned said that their attendance at cultural places was probably going to be less than before the pandemic, according to this survey carried out on a sample of 3,025 French people aged 18 and over.

Other impacts: 54% said they still fear busy places because of the risk of catching or transmitting the Covid, while 46% have become accustomed to using digital means to access cultural content (films, exhibitions , concerts, etc.).

As for the health pass, 25% of respondents indicated that it was a potential obstacle to a cultural outing.

A second study will be carried out in December.

Subscriptions to the penalty

Arnaud Roffignon indicated that currently, "

we know a certain wait-and-see attitude without there being any general trend

", even if it is proven that the live performance in particular is affected with "

subscription logics questioned

".

The director of the Paris Opera Alexander Neef recently told the Forum Opera website that the subscriptions of this prestigious institution had fallen by 45%.
