Despite a strong performance, VfL Osnabrück just missed the next surprise in the DFB Cup.
Against the unbeaten first division third SC Freiburg, the purple-whites only had to admit defeat 2: 3 in the second round on Tuesday evening on penalties.
After 120 thrilling minutes in front of 11,530 spectators in the stadium at Bremer Brücke 2:
Osnabrück - 2 (2: 1, 1: 1, 0: 1) confessed.
In the penalty shootout, three Osnabrück players then gave away.
Previously, Keven Schlotterbeck had saved Freiburg with his goal in the 120th minute after Osnabrück had already looked like the sure winner with a dream goal from Sebastian Klaas (108th).
In regular time it was exactly the opposite.
Osnabrück's Lukas Gugganig made the 30-minute extra shift possible with his header goal in the seventh minute of stoppage time.
