The taxi industry initiated fundraising for the deceased earlier. Yesterday (26th) the Hong Kong Taxi and Minibus Chamber of Commerce will pass most of the donations raised about 400,000 yuan to the widow of the deceased, in order to relieve the Wei family’s lust urgent.

After receiving the donation, Mrs. Wei sent a letter of gratitude to the association, thanking the industry and enthusiastic citizens for their support, hoping to get out of the trough of pain.


It is understood that the thank-you letter was ghostwritten by Mrs. Wei’s 13-year-old second daughter. In the letter, Mrs. Wei said: "My husband was innocently murdered, causing me to lose my beloved, and my children have lost their fathers... At this difficult time, I have received a lot of people’s love. Sympathy and concern, especially in the taxi and minibus industry where my husband works, various organizations and enthusiastic citizens, even took the lead in reaching out to help me to raise funds for the family I have lost to rely on, and help us tide over the difficulties!" said Mrs. His support and care have made us feel warm, hoping to help us get out of the trough of pain."

In the article, Mrs. Wei also mentioned that her husband was murdered innocently by the assailants while carrying passengers. She described "the assassin's brutality and the indignation" and expected the law to impose severe punishment, "to comfort the sword and the hero in the sky."

The Hong Kong Taxi and Minibus Merchants Association, which initiated fundraising to assist the Wei family, has so far raised more than 560,000 donations, of which about 80% came from industry donations, and enthusiastic public donations accounted for about 20%.

Yesterday, the Association took the lead in handing over 400,000 yuan to Mrs. Wei. No date has been set for the suspension of donations. It is expected that the remaining funds, plus more donations raised later, will be handed over to the widow.

The 48-year-old taxi driver Wei Jianxiong who was killed was called "Xiongzi" by his colleagues. He drove night-shift taxis for more than 10 years before his death. He was the breadwinner of his family and had two daughters and one son with his wife. The youngest son was only 9 years old and his second daughter was 13 years old.
