Geretsried - It should be safer to cross Tattenkofener Straße between Zehnerhüttenweg and Breslauer Weg. The first thing to do is to prohibit overtaking.

Geretsried - It should be safer to cross Tattenkofener Straße between Zehnerhüttenweg and Breslauer Weg.

The first thing to do is to prohibit overtaking.

The area is not a hotspot for accidents, but there is no doubt that it is dangerous either.

The latest tragic evidence came at the end of September.

The section of the state road near Geretsried is to be defused in the coming weeks with an overtaking ban.

Further measures are planned.

The Free State bears the costs.

A 64-year-old motorcyclist lost his life in the accident at the end of September.

When a car braked in front of him because a cyclist was crossing the street, the man started to overtake.

He overlooked the woman with her bike and crashed into her.

The elderly woman was seriously injured, the motorcyclist died at the scene of the accident.

Danger point Tattenkofener Straße

Recently, representatives of the city of Geretsried, the District Office, the Geretsried Police Inspection and the Weilheim State Building Authority took a look at the situation on site and discussed ways of defusing the danger zone.

"It was agreed to react as quickly as possible to the fatal accident at the end of September by ordering a ban on overtaking in the area of the crossing," said the Weilheim State Building Authority.

In the coming weeks, appropriate signs will be put up and a continuous line will be applied to the street, as Martin Herda from the building authority explained when asked.

So far, only signs on both sides indicate the danger zone and crossing cyclists.

In addition, according to the building authority, "after considering all the structural variants in the room, it was decided to equip the crossing point with a central island".

The planning for an implementation should begin promptly.

If everything works out, construction could take place in the coming year, but 2023 is more likely.

Building authority Weilheim has checked nature conservation

Because it is necessary for the road divider to widen the road, land acquisition is necessary. In addition to negotiations with the owners, questions relating to nature conservation must also be clarified. There is an FFH area next door. However, too much space shouldn't be necessary, which is why Herda is also quite confident about the construction of the central island. This is accompanied by a speed limit to 70 km / h and lighting so that the area can be seen more easily, especially at night. "In the opinion of all those involved, the central island at the existing location is the best possible solution after considering the various variants and the interests of all road users to increase traffic safety at this heavily frequented crossing point," said the State Building Authority.

The view on the straight Tattenkofener Straße is good, but the vehicles rush through at high speed.

At the same time, many cyclists and pedestrians cross.

However, the location is not considered a hotspot.

In the most recent observation period, three years in each case, there were no accidents.

The last time someone was injured was in 2014, and a fatal accident occurred in 2009.

If it crashes, it's bad.

Hopefully the measures will prevent that in the future.
