Today, the World Health Organization announced that the indicators of infections and deaths in Corona virus infection in the world rose for the first time in two months, stressing that the pandemic is still far from over.
"The general toll of cases and deaths in Covid 19 is currently increasing for the first time in two months," WHO Director-General Tedros Ghebreyesus said during a press conference in Geneva, adding that "the current rise in Europe outweighs the levels of decline in other regions... This is a new reminder that the pandemic far from finished.”
He stressed that the pandemic "to a large extent holds up due to the continued unequal access to control tools."
The World Health Organization has so far recorded 244.9 million cases of coronavirus in the world, including 4.97 million deaths.
In addition, the organization warned that there are 30 sub-strains of the delta variant of the Corona virus that warn of the continuation of the pandemic for a longer period.
The head of the WHO technical team on “Covid 19” Maria Van Kerkhove said that work is underway to address the inequity in the distribution of vaccines and increase vaccination coverage and advised the use of other tools such as distancing, wearing masks, improving ventilation and avoiding overcrowding to reduce the spread because vaccines alone are not sufficient to end the pandemic.
"We have a delta variant that is evolving: We're tracking 30 subspecies of it, so the pandemic will continue... We can end the pandemic and eliminate severe disease and death through vaccination... We can also reduce spread using other tools," she added.
Europe has seen a rise in cases and deaths over the past six weeks, especially with the advent of autumn and winter.
