As the Federal Agency for Cartography and Geodesy (BKG) announced on Thursday, the information card with warnings about the dangers of heavy rain can now be viewed on the freely accessible geoportal of the federal and state governments.
Düsseldorf - “Germany needs a uniform map for the whole of Germany, which shows the consequences of heavy rain.
The flood disaster in July made this clear once again, ”said BKG President Paul Becker according to the announcement.
NRW is the first sub-region in the project “Information map for heavy rain hazards”, said the NRW Minister for the Environment, Agriculture, Nature and Consumer Protection, Ursula Heinen-Esser (CDU).
The map is an "important instrument for identifying municipalities endangered by heavy rain more easily and to be able to point out special danger areas within the municipalities".
The information map for North Rhine-Westphalia will also be integrated into the specialist information system for climate adaptation by the State Office for Nature, Environment and Consumer Protection (Lanuv) and made digitally available to the public, it said.
Existing knowledge on climate impacts and adaptation to climate change in North Rhine-Westphalia will be brought together and processed there.
The map applications of the FIS Climate Adaptation including the new heavy rain hazard maps of the BKG can be called up under “www.klimaanammlung-karte.nrw.de” in the field of flood protection.
