The pension plans in the exploratory paper of the Ampel coalition did not go down well with economists.
Experts are now warning: Without reform it will be quite expensive for the younger generation in the future.
Berlin - The pension plans in the exploratory paper are unlikely to interest young people at first.
But it is precisely they who lose out in the end.
Ifo boss Clemens Fuest called the plans of the traffic light coalition in the
Handelsblatt
“not promising”.
The SPD, Greens and FDP seem to have completely ignored demographic change when they were working out their plans.
You want to keep the pension level stable and not raise the retirement age.
Pension: The young are the ones who suffer
Prof. Joachim Ragnitz from the Ifo Institute made
it clear to
Bild
that the implementation of these plans would result in “the old living at the expense of the young”.
After all, the generation contract could not work if more and more pensioners came to fewer and fewer contributors.
"That would be unfair to the younger generation, because as employees they would be burdened with higher contributions and taxes in the future," warned Ragnitz.
As a solution, he suggested no longer linking pension adjustments to wage developments as closely as before.
In this way, the elderly would also make a contribution to keeping the system stable.
"Financial shock" threatens without pension reform
Prof. Axel Börsch-Supan from the Max Planck Institute for Social Law and Social Policy in Munich is also critical of the development of the pension system.
“Nothing should change in terms of pension levels.
But that means: Either the contributions to the pension fund have to increase or the tax subsidies.
In both cases, the younger generation would be more burdened, ”he told
Bild.
In addition, Börsch-Supran warned of a “financial shock for the cash register”.
Because in the coming years three million people will retire.
Without reform, it could be a disaster - especially for young people.
And Fuest is also sure of the current traffic light plans: "The contributors can expect a lot."
