Prime Minister Ramelow wants to make that clear again.

Erfurt / Eisenach - Thuringia's Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow (left) has reiterated the demand for a long-term perspective for the German Opel locations. "This is one of the reasons why we support Opel, like other companies in the automotive sector, with structural change," said Ramelow, according to the State Chancellery, on Thursday in Erfurt. "We want - together with the federal government - that companies and jobs remain or become future-proof".

In addition, Ramelow, together with the heads of government of the other Opel states Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate, renewed the wish for a personal conversation with Stellantis boss Carlos Tavares. Stellantis is the parent company of Opel. "Relevant decisions have to be communicated openly and transparently," declared Volker Bouffier (CDU / Hessen), Malu Dreyer (SPD / Rhineland-Palatinate) and Ramelow.

According to the State Chancellery, Thuringia's head of government will speak at an IG Metall rally this Friday on the occasion of a nationwide day of action for a fair structural change in the automotive industry. The future of the Opel plant in Eisenach, where around 1,300 people work, continues to cause discussions. Currently and until the end of the year, Opel production at the Thuringian location is on hold due to a lack of electronic parts - that too had caused uncertainty in the region.

The current situation at the German Opel locations gives the union's day of action an additional explosiveness, said Ramelow.

"After plans for a possible spin-off of the Rüsselsheim and Eisenach locations from Opel Deutschland GmbH became known, the next bad news is the announcement that the toolmaking department in Rüsselsheim will be closed," he said.

It is good that the federal states concerned are pulling together.

According to figures for the third quarter, Stellantis has sold significantly fewer cars so far this year.

The number of vehicles delivered worldwide fell compared to the same quarter of the previous year by 27 percent to 1.13 million units, as reported by the company in Amsterdam, which was merged from the Peugeot and Opel parent company PSA and Fiat Chrysler.

The world's fourth largest car company was able to compensate for part of the decline through price increases and the sale of more expensive vehicles that were more frequently electric.

As a result, sales only fell by 14 percent to 32.6 billion euros.

Stellantis did not provide any information on the profit or sales of the German brand Opel.
