A group of seven dolphins of the common dolphin species, consisting of mothers and puppies, was observed northwest of Ashdod

Delphi researchers will try to identify their dorsal fin and see if they are known dolphins.

He added that "the Mediterranean subpopulation is classified as an endangered species, with the main risk threatening it being inadvertent trapping in fishing gear. Other threats include marine pollution, waste ingestion and damage to the food web. In 2017, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) declared territory "From the continental shelf off the coast of Israel's Mediterranean Sea as an important area for marine mammals (IMMA), following observations of found dolphins and dolphins found by observers of researchers and the Nature and Parks Authority."
