Burglars are particularly active again in the darker months of the year.

Because they usually see very quickly whether someone is at home or not.

Two police officers in Tölz have now explained how to prevent break-ins.

Bad Tölz - Just in time for the day of burglary protection on October 31st, Chief Criminal Investigator Simon Bräutigam from the criminal police advisory center in Weilheim and chief police officer Maria Tretter from the Bad Tölz police station in Tölzer Kaufland advised interested parties. "The burglary protection is currently not in the perception of the citizens, as the numbers go down significantly," said groom. Because of the pandemic, many people were often at home - and the burglars had fewer opportunities to gain access to houses and apartments unnoticed. And yet, on average, a break-in happens every seven minutes nationwide. The officials are therefore giving tips this year as well on how citizens can protect themselves easily and yet effectively: “It is essential to close doors and windows when you leave the house,” appeals Bridegroom. He advises using the existing fuses on the house sensibly, expensive security measures such as alarm systems are not absolutely necessary. “The front door should always be locked. If it is only closed, burglars can open it within seconds with a piece of a PET bottle, for example. The greatest security door doesn't help. "

Leave the lights on when you are out of the house

As a further measure, the chief detective recommends leaving the light on in the apartment when you are out of the house.

Because especially in autumn, when it dawns early, an unlit house immediately reveals: Nobody is at home here.

“But don't just turn on the light in the hallway,” advises Bräutigam.

“A lot of people do that, but nobody lives with the light in the hallway.” It is therefore important to light up living spaces.

Bridegroom knows how burglars operate.

“Begging gangs are often sent out to spy on where a break-in could be worthwhile.

The burglars are mainly Eastern European criminal gangs. ”Once you have chosen a house, everything happens very quickly.

"Burglars only need four minutes on average to get out of a house with their loot," says the expert.

"If someone is in a hurry and just quickly closes the door behind them because they think I'll be back in fifteen minutes anyway, the burglars will be gone a long time by the time they come back."

Police offer personal advice at home

The police also offer personal security advice to citizens at home.

An officer looks at the house and uses a protocol to discuss with the residents where they can make improvements to improve protection against burglary.

The offer is free of charge.

In contrast to the break-ins, the police are currently seeing a significant increase in the area of trick fraud.

"Here we want to warn older people in particular," says Tretter.

“People fall for fraudsters every day.

The perpetrators are very credible, ”said Tretter.

Anyone can fall for con artists

But not only older people would fall for the trickster, says Bräutigam.

“Wrong investments or promises of profit also cost young people horrific sums of money.

That really affects all age groups. ”That is why it is particularly important to take action when there is the slightest doubt and to call the police.
