This year's sand washes off Sylt to protect the island are over.
Sylt is ready for the winter, announced the State Office for Coastal Protection, National Park and Marine Protection Schleswig-Holstein (LKN) on Thursday.
Between the beginning of May and mid-October, around 2.45 million cubic meters of sand were washed up on the west coast of Sylt.
Westerland - Almost half was divided into three sections in Hörnum, one in List and one in the area of the transition from Westerland to Wenningstedt.
Another 1.25 million cubic meters were placed in the foreshore of Westerland and Hörnum to stabilize the coastal apron.
