Wessobrunn fire station: Emotional debate in the municipal council, but the sale remains

For almost an hour and a half in the Wessobrunn municipal council, I revolved around the sale of the Forster fire station, which the committee approved in April with an 11: 4 majority.

After a partly emotional debate, in which the 40 or so citizens present were allowed to take part, it remained with the sale.

Wessobrunn

- "Even then, we thought carefully about the decision," said Mayor Georg Guggemos at the beginning of the special session, at which he first gave a brief review.

The first ideas for a new building came up over ten years ago.

It became more specific in 2017, when a location in the valley next to the sports home was discussed.

Because of the expected costs of up to five million euros, the local council rejected this proposal, until after the last elections the orphaned inn “Bayrischer Hiasl” as a clubhouse and the construction of a fire station next to it were discussed.

But this idea, too, was put aside until the Raiffeisenfeld emerged as a possible solution this year.

Possible swap deal with the owner of the Raiffeisenfeld

In the course of negotiations with its owner, Georg Buchner-Arnold, a possible swap deal was also discussed, in which the fire station will be handed over. "That was a wish, but not a condition," explained Guggemos, who made it clear that an amicable settlement is also important for future cooperation with one of the largest landowners in Forst. "I want it to continue in Forst, and the fire station is not a bargain either," said Buchner-Arnold.

"I am very grateful that he is selling the Raiffeisenfeld, but he does not make the fire station a condition, so I am of the opinion not to give away such properties in the center of the village," said local councilor Gerlinde Sterr about the exchange.

"We should have given every citizen the right to buy the house," added Hubert Schütz.

He was one of the signatories of the citizens' motion that led to the special session.

Schütz also criticized what he saw as insufficient information.

"All fire fighters have been informed," countered Felix Kriesmair from Forster Wehr.

Kriesmaier brought possible demolition costs for the more than 50-year-old building into play and looked to the future: "If we don't respond to the request, he can say no next time."

Fire brigade commander: "We are not swimming in money and have to consider our means"

For the former second mayor, the discussion went too much on the personal and too little on the factual level. “We have to separate the property purchase on Raiffeisenfeld from the old fire station. You don't have to give it up if you don't, and you can still sell it in ten years, ”said Annemarie Bösl. "We are not swimming in money and have to use our resources wisely," said local councilor and fire brigade commander Andreas Reßler for the swap. Diemut Coppola, on the other hand, was clear: "There are also people in the community who are not in the clubs, maybe you think of them and the older ones", she brought up a possible meeting place in the old fire station. "I don't see a meeting place for old people there, maybe we can hold back a part of the Raiffeisenfeld for such a purpose",said the former councilor Michael Kirchbichler, who also praised the solution found as good.

Ultimately, the mood calmed down again, before the shooter master Michael Schelle finally found only one loser in the barter deal: the tax office.

In the roll-call vote, six councilors voted for the cancellation of the sale decision, seven for keeping it.
