Within the activities of the Syrian Book Fair, the Arab Music Orchestra and Choir of the Salhi Al-Wadi Institute of Music revived a musical evening led by Mahdi Al-Mahdi, on the stage of the Al-Assad National Library in Damascus.
The evening program, which was distributed by Al-Mahdi and supervised the training of students, singer Sumer Najjar, came in terms of choosing Arab music schools through pieces composed by Muhammad Fleifel, Abu Khalil Al-Qabbani, Rafiq Shukri, Omar Khairat, Zaki Nassif, Ziad Al-Rahbani and Sayed Darwish.
The choir with music performed a muwashshah “Nam Damai” and the song “Naqili Ahla Zahra” and the student Ziad Ammouna sang the song “Ya Hanina”, after which the student Rita Jaalouk played the famous musical piece “The Case of Uncle Ahmed”.
The orchestra performed a piece of wheat and then the student, Yasmine Qwaider, presented the song “Aho Elly Sar” as a solo singing, to conclude the evening’s orchestra and choir with a national anthem.
The Syrian Book Fair is accompanied by a diverse cultural program, including cinematic performances, concerts celebrating Qadod and Aleppo Muwashahat, and literary and intellectual seminars on children’s literature, with the participation of a group of Syrian intellectuals and creators, accompanied by a number of book signing ceremonies for a number of public and private publishing houses.
It is noteworthy that the Salhi Al Wadi Music Institute of the Ministry of Culture was established in 1960 under the name of the Arab Institute of Music to change its name later to the Salhi Al Wadi Institute in honor of its founder.
