Biden meets with Pope Rome ahead of G20 summit (Edited by Aviad Ballali)
US President Joe Biden met today (Friday) with Pope Francis at the Vatican as part of his visit to Europe, during which he will take part in the G20 summit in Rome as well as at the climate conference in Glasgow.
"I thanked His Holiness for his support of the world's poor and those suffering from hunger, conflict and persecution, and praised his leadership in the fight against the climate crisis and the end of the plague," Biden posted on his Twitter account at the end of the meeting.
Biden called Francis "the most significant peace fighter I have ever met."
This is the fourth meeting between the 78-year-old president and the 84-year-old pope, but the first since Biden entered the White House.
The meeting had a very positive atmosphere, and their meeting lasted more than an hour - longer than the length of the meeting received by the two previous presidents.

Biden gave the pope a presidential coin - a reminder of the military unit in which his son Biden served, who died of cancer in 2015.
"I know my son would like me to give it to you," Biden said during the meeting.
Biden, the second Catholic American president in history, said the pope expressed satisfaction with his Catholic piety, and Biden himself was documented saying to the pope, "God loves you."
The president further said that his support for abortions, which is considered a very controversial issue in the United States, was not mentioned in the conversation.
He further said that the pope called him a "good Catholic" at their meeting.

The two are known for their work against global warming, and the Vatican said it was a key issue at the meeting, alongside the Corona virus, refugees and immigrants, and "the protection of human rights, including freedom of religion and morality."
After the meeting, Biden addressed talks with Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi and French President Emmanuel Macron - ahead of the opening of the G20 summit to be held tomorrow morning.
