In Kafr Qassem, today (Friday) they expressed great appreciation for the words of President Yitzhak Herzog at the memorial service commemorating the massacre that took place in the city, and noted positively the apology he expressed on behalf of the state following the incident, in which 49 people were killed. "In Kafr Qassem, we really liked the visit of the president, and we really appreciate what he said," he told Walla! Safwaat Faraj, deputy head of the Islamic Movement in Israel, whose 26-year-old uncle Ahmad was killed in the massacre and his late father Muhammad, then 23, was injured in the incident.

"President Herzog is well known in Arab society and is valued and loved here for many years. Today his words really gave us a sense of relief, because they were constantly denied," Frij said. "When a president finally comes and apologizes it gives us a sense of relief. Maybe this is the beginning of something."

Farage told of his father, Muhammad, who died three and a half years ago at the age of 86, and who used to claim that the thing he had the hardest time in the years following the massacre was a state denial.

"He told us it hurt him more than the injury itself," said Farage, who described the chain of events on that difficult day, October 29, 1956. "As if they themselves were to blame, which is the complete opposite of what happened. The quarry work was hard physical work. They would come back exhausted at the end of the day. It was dark.

Fridge added that "Dad was among the first four to return to the village that day from work at the Migdal Tzedek quarry. It was even a few minutes before the curfew, even though they did not know about it at all. They returned from another hard day's work. It was a quarter to five, it was almost dark this season. Dad said he saw a movement of border police, it was not used. as they approached they saw that they are held, but no one said anything. they were in a position and prepared.

Dad said he welcomed them, but no one answered. after a few Seconds he heard the bullets. They were all on the bike. He snatched on foot and fell with the bike and the bike fell on him. His brother was abducted and died on the spot. "When a shepherd arrived, he crouched among the goats and managed to evade the herd. Unfortunately, the shepherd and the boy who were with him were killed on the spot. My uncle Ahmad left a wife, two sons and two daughters."

Farage welcomed Herzog's visit to the city, saying that the residents of Kafr Qassem expect that in the future the entire government will also take responsibility for the incident.

"If there was a fault they would say. They would apologize," he says.

"In the army, they teach about a clearly illegal order. My father would always say that for us the wound will continue to bleed until the Israeli government takes full responsibility for the massacre in Kafr Qassem. A democratic state must have morals and it cannot deny crime. "He will take responsibility and apologize on behalf of the Israeli government and on behalf of the state. My father, always when asked 'when are you forgiving', would say that as long as the government in charge of our security does not take responsibility, it means it can happen again. So it is impossible to forgive."
