Important awareness messages included in the children’s theatrical performance “My Grandfather’s Story” presented by the volunteers of the Syrian Arab Red Crescent branch in As-Suwayda to raise awareness of the dangers of war remnants and the proper way to deal with them when encountered.

The show, which was presented in cooperation with the Syrian Scheherazade Troupe for Dance Theater and hosted by the Culture Palace theater in Suwayda city, covered over a period of about 25 minutes the story of a blind grandfather telling his grandson how he lost his eyes and lost his friends when they were young playing in the lane as a result of their messing with one of the remnants of war, so that his grandson told him that he had learned how to deal with This waste and the need to avoid its danger through awareness sessions and courses he received in his school at the hands of Red Crescent volunteers.

The author of the text and its director, the artist Maan Dwaier, pointed out that the work is directed to children and the family and sought, through the intent of creating it, to convey the message to people in a festive, dancing and dramatic atmosphere in which all the elements of scenography, the colors of the greenish-blue background, the decoration and the basalt stone, because of its connection with the heritage and the solidity, to indicate the will of life of the Syrians in the face of calamities were invested. adversity and a look to the future.

Leader of the Syrian Scheherazade Group for Dance Theater and choreographer Mazen al-Hakim pointed out that 30 performers participated in acting and dances through the show to spread culture and awareness through interactive theater with children.

In turn, the head of the awareness-raising team on the dangers of remnants of war in the Syrian Arab Red Crescent branch, Dana Abdel-Din, explained that the work aims to educate children about the dangers of remnants of war and safety measures to avoid dealing with them, as their curiosity and love of exploration may make them more vulnerable to injury and danger, noting that Brochures were distributed to the children containing messages about how to act when noticing any remnants of war.
