Schlager fans angry about guests in Silbereisen's shows - ARD clearly justifies itself

The public service broadcaster produces and shows big hit shows at regular intervals, often at prime time.

But the programs with Florian Silbereisen and Co. have also been criticized for a while.

Munich - With Beatrice Egli (33), Jürgen Drews (76) and Ross Antony (47), presenter Florian Silbereisen (40) once again welcomed prominent personalities from the hit industry at the “Schlagerbooom 2021”.

The audience was presented with a well-known picture, after all, the trio - along with other pop stars - is one of the permanent guests in the major music shows on public broadcasters.

For this reason, many viewers have been complaining for a while about the lack of variety at the “Schlagerbooom”, the “Schlagerchampions” or the “Advent Festival of 100,000 Lights”.

The accusation: Silbereisen and Co. usually have the same stars on stage, while young talents or artists from other genres are hardly given airtime.

Is the criticism justified?

Schlager: Too little change with Florian Silbereisen and Co. - "It's no longer fun"

Some Schlager fans are frustrated not just since the “Schlagerbooom”, which Florian Silbereisen presented live last Saturday (23 October) in Dortmund's Westfalenhalle: “It's no longer fun to watch the program,” criticized a reader lack of variety in the shows of the 40-year-old presenter.

She is not alone with her criticism.

The fact that “always the same” pop stars appear on stage in productions such as “Schlagerbooom”, but also for example in “Immer wieder sonntags” or in the “ZDF TV Garden” is sometimes controversial even among the most loyal viewers.

If you look at the guest lists of the last Silbereisen shows to date, it is actually noticeable that a hard core around musicians like Beatrice Egli or Ross Antony is practically permanently present there.

Young, unknown, but up-and-coming talents are more the exception - unless they are under contract with a producer who is close to the production environment of any programs, were 'discovered' themselves in their own show or are related to or in a relationship with an already established star.

The promotion machinery just shouldn't come to a standstill.

ARD justifies itself for guests in shows by Florian Silbereisen

This representation is clearly contradicted in a statement by the entertainment program for public broadcasters.

One is very careful to "give a wide range of artists a platform":

In our entertainment shows, we still attach great importance to giving a range of artists a platform: young artists find their appearance as well as big names in the show and music industry and stars who are currently making a name for themselves - including from the region.

This mix will not change in the future either.

Schlager: Dwindling quality in Silbereisen shows - "Only playback and almost only cover songs"

Of course, a certain degree of variety is always required, this is too little - also in the eyes of numerous Schlager fans.

In general, the quality of the programs seems to have decreased, as the statements of some viewers confirm.

In addition to the expected guest list, other factors are to blame:

"Such a bad sound, questionable direction, only playback [and] almost only the cover songs", is how a disappointed fan sums up the "hit boom".

In this context, another Facebook user even referred to the ARD broadcast as a "Maxi Playback Show".

The criticism is justified: Especially the fact that hardly any new or even own pieces were performed at the “Schlagerbooom”, but mostly cover versions of well-known songs, had a negative impact: Otto Waalkes (73) tried a laborious one alongside Florian Silbereisen A copy of the Udo Jürgens hit "Greek Wine", while pop star LaFee (30) came up with an unimaginative version of Falcos († 40) "Rock Me Amadeus".

The same applies here: There are enough young artists with self-written songs.

As a result, more variety could also mean more quality.

Schlager: Silbereisen brings success to ARD - "Regularly a market share of 18 percent and more"

However, there also seem to be many Schlager fans who are quite satisfied with the guests and the way the big hit shows run: "The stars who perform there are the ones you want to hear at the moment," explains a Facebook user and defends himself like many others, the shows with Florian Silbereisen.

In the case of public broadcasting, too, it is clearly argued that the high market share clearly speaks for a correspondingly high level of interest:

There are a lot of people in Germany who like to watch a hit show on linear television on Saturday evening.

Our shows with Florian Silbereisen regularly have a market share of 18 percent and more.

In the broad range of ARD there are also many offers in which many other musical genres take place.

However, the market share cannot be equated with the satisfaction of the audience.

In the absence of alternatives, as a Schlager fan you are of course happy about every show - whether this also meets expectations in terms of quality is questionable.
