Weilheim - What has happened at Stadtwerke Weilheim in 2020 and 2021?

In the latest city council meeting, Stadtwerke boss Peter Müller gave information about this.

water

One of the things the Stadtwerke is concerned with is the search for another well to supply drinking water.

But as Müller says, it is difficult to find an engineering office at the moment.

Nevertheless, he is confident that he will be able to carry out a test drilling for a south-east well at the beginning of next year.

Plans are currently underway for water storage as well.

With 4,000 cubic meters, the elevated tank on the Gögerl “almost reaches its limits”, as the Stadtwerke boss explains.

Because: “Weilheim is growing.” Müller speaks of an additional 2,000 cubic meters of storage space required.

It has not yet been finally clarified whether the existing elevated tank will be expanded or an additional one will be created.

Sewage sludge dewatering is another topic.

For this purpose, as the messenger reported, a corresponding system was built.

According to Müller, a photovoltaic system will be installed here soon.

In addition, the interior work is currently underway.

With the system, the municipal utilities want to make themselves a little more independent from providers in this area.

Müller expects the price of sewage sludge disposal to increase by 19 percent in the years 2022 to 24.

A renovation that is still pending concerns the bunting.

The Ammerdüker at Merkstrasse is now around 50 years old.

It is more or less an underpass for the sewer pipe with which the west of Weilheim is drained.

Originally the culvert was 1.50 meters deep.

But over the decades, the overflowing Ammer deepened, as Müller explains.

Strengthening the old culvert will not work.

Then the west could no longer be drained for the duration of the construction work.

Instead, a new culvert is to be built a little downstream.

With a depth of at least two meters.

The Stadtwerke boss estimates that this could last for around 50 years.

Depot

The depot was also very busy.

Work for the city and surrounding communities in the road and civil engineering, green maintenance, craftsman and caretaker services as well as electrical department account for more than 83,000 hours in 2020.

Around 15,000 hours of that for water, wastewater and broadband.

Müller expects similar figures for 2021.

In order to be able to do all the work carefully, various replacement or new purchases were made for the vehicles and devices.

In cooperation with the city of Weilheim, the infrastructure project is also currently underway.

Virtually the entire city is illuminated here.

Where are the traffic signs?

Are these still useful at this point?

Where are manhole covers?

"Everything that is in the public street is recorded," summarizes Müller.

Parking and bus

In order to support Weilheim's overall parking space concept, a new multi-storey car park was built on Öferl.

It has been in operation since September 2020 (we reported).

According to the Stadtwerke boss, the utilization is around 50 percent.

The rental of individual parking spaces is increasing by around a dozen every week.

The development plan procedure is currently still in progress for the Krumpperstrasse multi-storey car park.

As reported several times, battery-electric buses will roll through the district town from January 1, 2022.

So far everything seems to be going according to plan for the most part.

The workers only had to take a short break when the stop at Unteren Graben was being rebuilt.

Archaeological finds from the last century were found there, reports Müller.

But he immediately clouds curiosity when he says that it is just standardized clay bricks.

When equipping the stops with new signs, waiting and drinking tea is currently the order of the day.

“You are waiting for everything today,” says Müller on the subject of delivery problems.

electricity and gas

November 11, 2021, Müller will probably have marked himself in bold in his calendar.

Then two judgments will be made on legal disputes that the municipal utilities are leading.

On the one hand, there is the dispute over the power grid.

The old concessionaire still refuses to surrender the network, which leads to lengthy legal proceedings.

Currently before the Higher Regional Court.

The situation is similar with the gas network.

Here, too, the previous concessionaire refuses to hand them over.

A decision is due to be made on both issues on November 11th.

“We are confident that it will work out in our favor.” Discussions with the old concessionaires should then take place as early as the week after.

Unless they decide to go to the Federal Court of Justice.

The Stadtwerke boss also goes into the price development.

When it comes to electricity, citizens currently have to dig deeper into their pockets.

Müller mainly blames speculation on the stock exchange for this.

In the case of gas, on the other hand, they are “well covered”, which means that prices would remain stable for the time being.

That will certainly please some car owners who fill up on the gas.

There has been a natural gas filling station at Paradeis since February 2020.

This has so far "exceeded expectations", says Müller.

Broadband

There is good news on broadband.

An additional provider has now been installed.

More are to follow.

In the meantime, more than 230 kilometers of cable have been laid.

The second construction phase for a passive fiber optic infrastructure as part of the federal broadband expansion program will begin at the end of this year after the market research process.

Investments and plans

In 2020, the municipal companies and SWE GmbH raised a total of 19.7 million euros.

The expenses hit with 20.3 million euros.

The investments amounted to 7.2 million euros.

For 2021, Müller expects income of 18.3 million euros, while he estimates the expenses at 18.8 million euros.

The investments will probably amount to 9.3 million euros by the end of the year.

The municipal utilities still have a lot to do in the future.

Possible projects concern, among other things, the city bus: On-demand traffic and a line Trifthof-Deutenhausen / Marnbach speaks to Müller.

The operation of the Weilheim indoor swimming pool will probably also be an issue in the future.

And an H2mobility hydrogen filling station is also an idea in the room.
