Loyal business taxpayers, potential in the business parks: Volker Reeh, economic advisor to the city council, gave Geretsried a good report. But there is also one problem that worries the largest city in the district.

Loyal business taxpayers, potential in the business parks: Volker Reeh, economic advisor to the city council, gave Geretsried a good report.

But there is also one problem that worries the largest city in the district.

Geretsried - Volker Reeh felt it firsthand.

He had advertised an apartment that he rents out on the Internet for a day.

During this time he received 60 inquiries - 50 of them from outside, only ten from Geretsriedern.

He finally gave the apartment to a young man who got a job at the Penzberg company Roche, but whose home is too far away to commute.

The story of the city council's economic advisor shows once again the problem that companies in the Oberland have in common: They need skilled workers and can almost exclusively fill the positions with staff from outside who, in turn, are looking for housing, which is not available in the Oberland.

"The high rents are hindering economic growth," said Reeh about the resulting price increase.

People need short commutes

In his report, which he submitted to the city council on Tuesday, the economic advisor demanded: "If we are planning new industrial parks, we should give the new owners more freedom to optimally combine living and working." The shorter the driving time, the more they have the people of life.

"The subject of time is becoming more and more important." According to Reeh, the largest city in the district has around 8,500 employees who are subject to social insurance.

More than half (a good 4,300) commute to Geretsried, 2,300 of them lived in the district, 430 in Munich.

Reeh rated the decision to draw up development plans for the southern industrial area as positive (see box).

"That fits exactly into the concept that we are pursuing in the long term," said the economic advisor.

Commercial areas would have to be secured and better developed.

Geretsried has potential there, says Reeh.

"With development plans we can improve a lot so that attractive jobs can be created."

Loyal business taxpayers, comparatively little hospitality

In 2020, 2500 companies were listed in Geretsried, Reeh cited figures from the planning association for the outer economic area of Munich. There were 19.1 million euros in trade tax, the income tax portion amounted to 15.6 million euros. Of the approximately 8500 employees subject to social security contributions, a good 3700 worked in the manufacturing industry, 2800 in the service sector, and 2100 in the areas of trade and transport. The companies that are members of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry are divided into industry (around 240), retail (320), wholesale (280), transport and logistics (75), and hospitality (90, “actually very little, there are Bad Tölz and Penzberg ahead of us ”, says Reeh), services for companies (400) and for people (540).

In comparison with Wolfratshausen, Reeh found that the income tax was almost the same, although Geretsried had more residents.

The trade tax revenues are lower in Wolfratshausen.

"We have loyal business taxpayers," praised Reeh.

15 percent of the space in Wolfratshausen is used for commercial purposes.

There are 23 in Geretsried. Reeh commented: "Large logisticians use an incredible amount of space."

Speaking of space: the new open space on the redesigned Karl-Lederer-Platz has to be used.

The week after next there will be a workshop with the retail association ProCit, the Geretsried industrial community and the city.

Reeh: "The new sales areas offer opportunities."

Nothing but business

With Geretsried Süd, the city is taking on one of its large industrial areas.

The city council recently put a ban on changes and a change to the development plan north of Sudetenstrasse so that it remains a purely industrial area.

In the most recent session, it was the turn of the area south of the main bypass.

The committee voted unanimously to draw up the development plan number 153 for the area.

As city planning officer Rainer Goldstein explained, businesses should be able to develop freely there.

Areas that are currently used for parking could be returned to commercial use in the future.
